Celebrating Over 22 years of Setting a New Pace for the Standardbred

Placement Program

Performance Standardbred is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting retired harness racing horses, while they await placement.

All our horses in the placement program are regularly maintained including deworming, farrier, dental, and vaccinations. They have also been weaned off of their high-calorie diets and given gradual turnout to full-time turnout with other horses. Each horse is evaluated individually as to their needs and adjustment period.

If you are interested in listing or purchasing a horse within our Placement Program and/ or our Referred Horse Program, please complete the appropriate form below and fax, mail or email to us your request.

We are also looking for New foster homes for some of our retired athletes. If this is of interest to you, please contact Kathy we would welcome and appreciate your support.

Meet Our Ambassador

Sometime Royal ("Timmy") was purchased for the program in 2006 along with 3 of his siblings. Due to the unfortunate health circumstances of the owner, the horses had to be placed in a short amount of time. Timmy, along with his one 1/2 brother were never even started in harness or under saddle , but given the foreseeable future they were headed for - and the potential they seemed to possess based on body type, temperament, and movement - they were accepted by the program. Timmy was by far the most headstrong, bold, and egotistical of the group. Non of the others were clearly that self- indulged! However, he also possessed the most dramatic movement.

Work was started with him under saddle and he proved he did have the work ethic that most Standardbreds possess - true focus on the task at hand, and a willingness to try. Although he was listed for sale , the prospect of him simply being a recreational use horse or not having his talents recognized became a concern. The decision to either sell him based on his potential to an experienced horseperson or keep him in the program was soon a reality. When nobody fitting the owner profile came forward, the second option was chosen.

For the last two years, having had relatively brief schooling under saddle, Timmy has been chosen “Best Standardbred in Show” at our “Chaos to Collection” All Breed Schooling show. He has definitely started making an impression at Spruce Meadows during the Breed demos at the Master’s tournament, and has handled his performances and appearances with the experience of an old pro. Timmy has proven he is worthy of his title as Ambassador and we will continue with his training to demonstrate the Standardbred’s versatility.
