Performance Standardbreds was established in 1990 by a few Standardbred enthusiasts who realized the animal's enormous potential as a saddle horse. Recognizing the need to give horses no longer able to race new lives, Performance Standardbreds now promotes the breed in a new and positive light.
Performance Standardbreds gratefully acknowledges the support of Horse Racing Alberta in contributing to our efforts.
The first annual Performance Standardbred Horse Show was held in June of 1991. Classes included compulsory skills, jumping, barrel racing, pole bending, trail, driving, free style, and the champagne ride. From this annual show a team is chosen to compete at The Spruce Meadows Battle of the Breeds. In September 1992, Team Standardbred placed 3rd in a field of 15 breeds, a placing of which we are very proud, especially as the Standardbreds competing had very little prior experience in any of the events. What does that tell you about the Standardbred?
The Standardbred is a living reminder that it is both necessary and possible to pay back the debt that people have to equine athletes.
